How Digital and Social Media is Transforming the Business & Consumption of News

AIS Media and the Direct Marketing Association of Atlanta (DMA Atlanta) are pleased to present an executive luncheon event in which panelists discuss how “Digital and Social Media is Transforming the Business and Consumption of News”.

During the past 5 years, we’ve experienced a disruptive shift in the way news media is consumed. Never before in human history has so much news been available to so many people, so quickly and in so many channels. Consumers are increasingly turning to digital channels to consume news and play an active role in the process of collecting, reporting, analyzing and disseminating news and information.

11 Alive reporter, Duffie Dixon, will moderate a panel of news media professional from top Atlanta news organizations who will share insights, predictions and trends.

News consumption is shifting

A Pew Internet study reveals that 37% of people have contributed to news creation, commented on news or shared it via a social media site such as Facebook or Twitter.

The study also shows that in the U.S., 75% of all online news is accessed through shared news from social networks or email — and half of online news (52%) of users share it themselves.

The study also reveals that 46% of people get news from 4 – 6 media platforms and 78% get their news from a local TV station and 61% get news online.

Mobile phones have also changed how people search for and receive news. Thirty-three percent of mobile phone owners new access news on their phone.

As traditional and digital news media channels continue to converge, how is the business of news media being reshaped?
