Harpointner's statements included: As shoppers begin their search for the ultimate deal, "this holiday shopping season is going to be very competitive" for e-tailers (or Internet retailers) and since "consumers are still in high-gas-price mode," capturing their attention will require more effort. One low-cost strategy to attract online shoppers is to offer shipping promotions, AIS Media's Thomas Harpointner says. Free shipping can get pricey for e-tailers, but to "help offset costs, offer free shipping only on orders of a minimum amount" which typically encourages shoppers to "spend more just to nab the deal."
