His statements included: The competition is fierce this holiday shopping season and retail growth remains about flat, at 2.2% this year, however, Harpointner said, "the great news for retailers that have a very effective web presence is that e-commerce is growing at about 5 times the rate of regular retail, so for websites that are e-commerce enabled and are doing a great job at attracting consumers" the outlook is very optimistic. AIS Media's Harpointner commented that consumers are bargain-hunting using "the Internet as their primary way to window shop, so for every dollar they're spending online, the Internet is affecting about three dollars offline." Not only is the Internet and email marketing a great way to drive traffic "to their website but also to drive traffic directly to their store," he said.
