Austin American-Statesman Interviews AIS Media on International E-commerce

AIS Media Inc. CEO, Thomas Harpointner, was interviewed by The Austin American-Statesman to discuss the latest trends in global e-commerce and what the future holds for it. His statements included:
ShangBy is enjoying a surge of interest in online shopping: According to research firm ComScore Inc., shoppers spent about $28 billion from Nov. 1 to Dec. 27 in 2007, 19 percent more than the year before. But it'll face stiff competition from other so-called e-tailers who will increasingly go global and offer more niche products, said Thomas Harpointner, chief executive of AIS Media, an Internet marketing firm that publishes a newsletter called "eBusiness News."
"E-commerce originated in the United States, but the global footprint is growing tremendously," Harpointner said. He expects established retailers such as QVC and the Home Shopping Network to make big online pushes in the next two years and says that Buy.com recently launched a site devoted to selling jewelry.
Harpointner believes we'll soon be doing much of our online shopping in our living rooms using Internet-enabled TVs and that the kind of interactivity that ShangBy offers will be offered by many other retailers.
