AIS Media Inc.CEO, Thomas Harpointner, was interviewed by Food Service and Hospitality Magazine to discuss the measures to take to insure your messages are being segmented to your audiences. His statements included:

“Retirees and boomers are moving online faster than any other demo,” says Thomas Harpointner, CEO of Internet services company AIS Media Inc. in Atlanta. Still, it’s important to keep it simple. “On a website, that means larger font sizes and the ‘three-click rule’ — they need to get where they’re going from the home page in three clicks or less,” he says. “Slow load times and flash animations are also turn-offs, but these people do like to read, so e-mail offers with coupons and specials can be effective,” says Harpointner.

Teens are another natural choice for e-marketing, but — as inconceivable as it may seem if you’re over 25 — they actually see e-mail as old-fashioned. Instead they rely on mobile devices and instant messaging. Harpointner says a popular nightclub in Atlanta that sends e-mail to his PC and text messages on his phone, is a good example. He also notes North America is behind Europe and Asia in mobile marketing, but we’ll soon have the capability to inexpensively push messages out to numerous devices through SMS and other new technologies.
